1/100 SCRATCH BUILT BISMARCK
By Bernd Willmer, Stuttgart, Germany.
Last year (2002) I started a 1/100 scale model of the German WWII Battleship Bismarck.
I acquired a set of scale drawings made by Mr. Gally from Germany using wartime material. Besides this plan, I am using photographs from books and archives (never enough pictures at hand, of course!).
I decided to build most of the upper structures from styrene. Although the finished model will be large (overall length 250.5 cm), but the 1/100 scale offers a challenge for making all the fine details.
I started with the After Command Post. This was an armored post and carried the rear 10.5 m range finder on its top. The brass "rivets" have a head diameter of 0.35 mm. I also used thin zink foil for small details.
Thanks to Uwe Fauer for taking the pictures and to Markus van Beek for his hints and tips.
