For those interested ih history your site is a valuable contribution. The roll of the ship's crew is interesting. It is a pity that so little or no details on so many of the crew is available. Keep up the good work.

A very good and detailed site that gives a clear view of one of the most famous battleships in the history of naval warfare. I congratulate you on your splendid work of this site. Perhaps you could include some information on some of the battleships commisoned by the Japanese Empire, that would be a great add on.

I have greatly admired the strength of the German naval forces of world war 2, especially the Bismarck. She was a battleship built far, far ahead of its time. Her guns were the best and the biggest of her time. Keep up the good work, love your site.

Freddie clarke,
don't know how you can claim that Bismarck had poorly designed armour, considering the amount of times that she was struck by torpedoes and did not sink and the 400 recorded hits she took from the surrounding British fleet in her last engagement and the fact that apparently the armoured core of her hull had not been penetrated I'd say that she was a testament to how well her armour had been designed. She was an incrediably tough ship and her hull for all intents and purposes aside from the massive hole blown by scuttling charges, is still fairly intact 3 miles beneath the surface of the sea.
But you are right her crew had courage as did the men of the Hood.

Excellent site, and also very interesting to read your guestbook. While the Bismark was (at time of commisioning) a great warship, she was already obsolescent. Her poorly designed armour and AA fittings reflected the prevailing naval trends at the time. Bismark would have gone down a little quicker two years later thanks to RN/US radar. However it is always the fight against insurmountable odds that reminds us of true human spirit. The crew of the Bismark had this to a high degree.
cheers
Freddie

My hobby is genealogy and I'm very interested in World War II.
A few days ago I found the crew list on your internetsite (and on another; which is easy for comparison).
My intension is to put the names of all the sailors on board of the Bismarck at the time of her sinking into my database and to find as much ancestors of these men as I can.
Therefore I can use your help very much: Do you know anyone who does the same?
There are two men with the family-name Lindemann. I wonder: Are they in any way related to Till Lindemann; the singer of Rammstein?
The next step is of course Bismarck''s sistership: The Tirpitz....But where can I find her crewmanifest?
Sincerely: Marten Ritsma
.....And keep up this work on this very interesting webpage: A lot of info about the subject one is looking for.

it tells the story from the Movie Point of View, though I am sure there are many, especially those Brave men on Both Sides Fighting.
I have done this for me as a way of telling History Musically, something that was a Real thing many years ago, passed throught the songs of Generations.
